Teeth Whitening - Can it be Part of your Beauty Regime? Up until recently teeth whitening was considered solely for the rich and famous, don't we remember with envy the shiny white smile of Simon Cowell on Idol? How do we wish we could also achieve those superstar looks, the gleaming white teeth and brilliant smiles! Now in more difficult financial times how can we even consider or justify teeth whitening as part of our modern day natural beauty up keep? It is quite amazing that in America Crest Whitestrips was launched in 2001 when the US economy faced another financial meltdown. Yet it was Proctor & Gamble who decided to buck the trend and launched what was to become one of America's top 10 brand campaigns that now has over 21 million users in America alone. So it has been that the Americans have enjoyed a very simple and definitely affordable brilliant white smile for the best part of a decade. Now So Can You! Teeth Whitening products like Crest Whitestrips are simple to use, they are affordable, the whitening does last in some cases for up to 24 months, and you can buy them in the UK. 'Do it Yourself' or 'home' teeth whitening products are 100% safe, effective and they can help you achieve that beautiful, bright, white smile without the costs involved in a trip to the dentist! In the UK we need to spread the word, and fast. We literally spend thousands of pounds on ourselves, on our beauty up keep each year; and yet teeth whitening is not even considered an integral part, why? Well the reality is that we don't know about it, certainly not enough about it. We purchase numerous lipsticks, eye liner / shadow, maschera, nail varnish, hairspray (or is that gel these days), perfume and after shave, but not teeth whitening! Incredibly it is teeth whitening, creating that beautiful white smile that can complete the facial look we desire. For it is that brilliant white look that actually sets off our expensive lipstick, foundation cream, and eye make up. For less than a good night out, a mere £50 you can afford to purchase a home teeth whitening kit, and with the knowledge that they are dental strength and do work. VERY IMPORTANT - Most people ask me, what or how white will my teeth go? The response is simple and the same for every one. They will go back to your natural shade, whatever that was. So if you were born with yellow teeth a whitening process will merely 'clean' them they will not whiten them. If you were born with dull or off white teeth then that is the shade that they will go back to. If you were lucky and born with brilliant white teeth then that also is the shade that your teeth will go back to. Crest Whitestrips and our other teeth whitening products, Bdazzled Professional, Xpress or Ionic White will remove the deep intrinsic stains from your teeth. These will have been generally caused by antibiotics taken as a child and typical food stuffs such as caffeine, curries, red wine and cheese. There is good news for smokers as these products whilst taking slightly longer than a one off treatment over a two week period WILL whiten your teeth. Perhaps the results may even encourage you to stop smoking! Hows that for a benefit! 'What is All the Fuss About?' Well teeth whitening is here to stay, its safe, affordable, dental quality AND IT WORKS. Now we can ALL enjoy the benefits of the rich and famous. A beautiful white smile can be yours, its so simple and the benefits are endless; Just try it and find out how SMILING can improve yours and others self confidence and well being. Why not be luckier in love? Smile more in the job interview, Smile at family and friends, Smile for the camera, Smile MORE WITH CONFIDENCE on that special night out or big do! It's all possible and it can yours, so don't hesitate another moment. Happy Whitening Steve ps. If you require more information about teeth whitening then email me at stephen@themccannagency.co.uk |

Dentist or Home Teeth Whitneing? Once you have decided to include teeth whitening as part of your affordable monthly / annual beauty regime the next big question is whether to visit your own dentist or to buy a teeth whitening kit that you can do yourself at home from a store / online website. Dental Whitening The benefits of visiting your dentist is that they will make near perfect 'mouth moulds / trays or impressions of your teeth, however this part of the process is time consuming and therefore expensive. The actual material the dentist uses to make the impressions with is very cheap; yet you can be charged up to £100 for an upper and lower set, for just this part of their process alone. On your next visit to the dentist visit they will fill these trays with carbamide peroxide (usually around 20 - 30% strength) place them in your mouth for 45 minutes to an hour and shine a laser or blue light on the carbamide peroxide. The benefit here is that the light can in some circumstances enhance and speed up the whitening process. However your dentist will also give you 2 or 3 weeks additional supply of whitening ingredient which you will do yourself at home. The overall dental whitening treatment is likely to cost upwards of £350 / 500. Home Teeth Whitening Home Teeth Whitening in the UK as mentioned in our 'Why Can't it be a Part of your Beauty Regime' post is a rapidly growing market, and in America has been for over 10 years. It is in America a normal acceptable way of enhancing our overall beauty image and confidence that is far from intrusive and time consuming, and indeed can be fun. So lets look at the benefits of home teeth whitening. At home teeth whitening is only going to set you back at most £50 for a high quality kit whether that is a strip (like Crest Whitestrips) or a mould version similar to the dentist's version (like Bdazzled Professional). The material used to make the moulds in the Bdazzled Range are a brand new thermo shrink technology making them as close as ever to the dental version. The ingredients in both these products are exactly the same as those used by your dentist, normally they range from 20 - 30% carbamide peroxide. The process can be done when it is more convenient to you, early in the morning, late at night or even with the brand new Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal, in the shower, washing your hair, or even drinking! - and importantly they like the dental version they work on the basis that the more you whiten your teeth the closer they will return to their natural shade, whatever that was. Summary Dental Whitening. Benefits; Near Perfect Moulds. Instant Whitening Negatives; Expensive £500+, Same Ingredients as take home kits, Still requires weekly top ups / whitening at home Home Teeth Whitening Benefits Very Affordable around £50, Less Time Consuming, Same Ingredients and strength as dental version Convenient, Fun, Negatives; Availability (online stores in the UK only) Which ever route you choose, home teeth whitening is here to stay, it is convenient, affordable, fun and they will remove those deep intrinsic stains that have occurred over time. The ingredients are the same as used by your dentist, the process is virtually identical and whether you choose a 'strip' or a 'mould' which we will talk about later these products will take your teeth back to their natural shade. It really is time to include teeth whitening as part of our overall beauty regime. So Why Are Your Teeth Not White We all want white teeth and for a variety of reasons. In today's modern society we tend to spend an awful lot of money on our 'beauty' up keep and now teeth whitening has become a trendy & affordable part of our beauty regimes. But why are our teeth NOT white? |
|
THE BENEFITS OF A BEAUTIFUL WHITE SMILE Not only are white teeth a sign of good looks it is also extremely healthy to have white rather than yellow teeth or teeth with deep intrinsic stains. Removing tartar and plaque by regular brushing and flossing will give you a healthier mouth, with less chance of fillings and damaged nerves or roots. Regular brushing prevents the build up of those surface stains that can become those un wanted deep intrinsic stains. |

Teeth Whitening Side Affects - Are they Harmful? If you visit your dentist regularly for check ups and ask their advice you will find that teeth whitening is for most people. It is one of the most safest cosmetic procedures to whiten your smile. The side affects of teeth whitening are minimal in most cases, however in the main there are 3 areas that we should be concerned about;- Tenderness of the Gums & Cheeks With all of today's modern teeth whitening kits your gums and cheeks are protected by the whitening tray, mould or barrier material (strip). When the days treatment is complete the gums or cheeks can sometimes appear white or feel slightly sore or tender, HOWEVER DON'T PANIC. In most extreme cases the soreness should ease and disappear in the following 48 / 72 hours. Sensitivity There are some extreme cases of patients with unbearable pain from tooth sensitivity. If you know already that you have sensitive teeth then you should consult your dentist and take necessary precautions such as ;- a) Use a pre whitening toothpaste and desensitising gel before, during and after the treatment b) Use a 'sensitive' toothpaste after the treatment. Arm & Hammers 'sensitive' is a brilliant tooth paste for preventing tooth sensitivity. In general sensitivity during or after tooth whitening can range from a mild tingling sensation to moderate discomfort. Generally we find that in these cases it can last from a few hours to two days. To help any sensitivity you can also try to avoid cold drinks and foods for this period. Tooth sensitivity is not long lasting and is totally reversible, DO NOT PANIC - it does go away all by itself and at no stage is any damage done to the nerve or tooth. Whitening is a safe procedure when done correctly and the instructions followed carefully. There are minimal side affects and the benefits are endless. White Spots If you were born with 'white spots' (fluorosis stains) or had any pre existing white spots before whitening, these spots after a whitening treatment can in some circumstances appear 'bright white' against your gleaming white teeth. Generally these spots go back to their 'natural' shade after a few days. The reason people can have these spots is usually due to fluoride in the water, and they tend to turn alot whiter during the process due to the different moisture content from that of the tooth. Veneer, Crowns, Caps & Fillings For those of us that have any of these the good news is that the whitening process will not damage them - it will not whiten them however! just your natural teeth. Ideally to get the perfect solution if you have any caps, crowns or veneers then use one of our professional teeth whitening systems, Crest Whitestrips or Bdazzled, to whiten your teeth back to their natural shade. Then visit your dentist and in the money that you will have saved by not having your teeth whitening at the dentist then you can have your non natural teeth changed to match that of your new pearly whites. The bottom line is that teeth bleaching can cause some variations of sensitivity, however this is only a temporary experience. In order to permanently bleach the teeth, the solution (carbamide or hydrogen peroxide) must penetrate through the enamel to reach the underlying dentin. The dentin contains tiny tubules which allow the flow of cellular fluids between the live nerve in the center of the tooth and the outer layer of enamel. This is the reason that the teeth become sensitive. It would be logical to assume that this process can't be too good for the health of the nerve, however, over the course of the years that these bleaching products have been used, no ill effects have been reported. The sensitivity goes away within a few days of terminating the bleaching treatments, and the nerves in the teeth suffer no permanent damage. The sensitivity, while temporary, in rare cases may be severe and has been known to force some patients to terminate the bleaching treatment early. So finally in our analysis, what can't teeth bleaching do?
The great advantage is that now that you know you can safely whiten your teeth at home you will always have a beautiful, natural looking white smile Happy Whitening Steve |

BDAZZLED Home Teeth Whitening Kits The alternative to a 'strip' for your home whitening treatment is to consider a mould version. Again these are very simple to use, and whilst a bit more fiddly than a strip in the long run the mould or tray version can prove more cost effective as you only need to purchase top up syringes of carbamide peroxide. Again it depends on time, money and of course preference. |
