Teeth whitening is suitable for nearly everybody and you can whiten your teeth back to their natural shade, not better than.
As you age your teeth discolour, for example they may start a slightly yellow shade and gradually go a darker yellow shade as you consume a variety of foodstuffs (red wine, curries, fizzy drinks, caffeine), tobacco or even antibiotics taken as a child. They may start off white and go yellow because of the same reasons. They may start white and go slightly yellow and so on.
All of the stains that have occurred in your life can be removed or lightened over a period of teeth whitening. Everybody is different, therefore whitening will occur at different speeds, some require stronger treatments, some will see results in only a few days, however your teeth will get lighter, brighter and whiter.
